Kindergarten Performance Decriptors
Performance level descriptors outline the knowledge, skills, and practices that are taught in kindergarten.
- Recognize various types of lines, e.g., thick/thin, long/short, straight/curved
- List colors in the color spectrum order.
- Recognize that colors are lighter and darker.
- Recognize shapes in a given artwork, e.g., circle, square, triangle.
- Distinguish between rough and smooth surface
- Identify simple patterns, e.g., AB, AA, BB, ABA.
- Recognize direction in an artwork, e.g., up and down, back and forth, across
- Name the mood or emotion shown in an artwork.
- Name one way each art form is different from the others.
- Describe the theme, ideas, feeling, or story within an artwork.
- Name simple materials used to paint, draw, and construct.
- Use appropriate tools (e.g., brushes, scissors, clay modeling tools) correctly with simple materials when creating an artwork.
- Demonstrate the safe use of materials and tools.
- Manipulate a variety of materials to create 2-D or 3-D art works.
- Demonstrate eye/hand coordination when using tools and materials to create an artwork.
- Demonstrate the use of originality/imagination when creating an artwork
- Name occupations associated with art careers (e.g., art teacher, illustrator).
- Interpret visual images in art works made by self and others.
- Tell about a personal experience in the arts.
- Connect images from a work of art to stories about people and everyday life.
